The Waveform Generator powers electromagnets that bends or scan the electron beam. A sophisticated waveform is required so that the beam becomes evenly distributed across the output of the scan chamber, which is known as the window. The waveform generator supplies two waveforms: one scans the beam across the length of the window while the other scans the beam across its width. Using the whole width of the window distributes the energy thus reducing the window’s operating temperature. The generator includes a scan continuation circuit that will continue to scan the beam for a short time after a power failure.
