The Vacuum System, which maintains high vacuum (better than 10-6 torr) performs three critical functions: (1) prevents filament burn out; (2) eliminates electrodes sparking; (3) allows for the electrons to travel unimpeded by air molecules.
Most of our systems use vacuum ion pumps for their vacuum system. Ion pumps are solid state and are designed for maintaining high vacuum. Wasik Associates can also provide systems with cryo-pumps or turbo pumps.
