Power SupplyPower Supply

The Power Supply is composed of a three-phase step-up transformer with its magnetic cores electrically insulated at each secondary.  Each secondary coil is connected to a rectifying circuit commonly known as a full wave doubler. This circuit converts the alternating current (AC) from each secondary coil into direct current (DC).  The secondary coils, cores and rectifying circuits are grouped as triplets on each deck, one complete circuit for each phase.  The voltage output of each circuit is connected in series to achieve the output of each deck.  Each deck is then connected in series to create the total DC voltage output of the power supply.

Wasik Associates manufactures three basic sizes of power supply:  25 kilowatt, 50 kilowatt, and 100 kilowatt.  Within these sizes, power supplies range from three hundred thousand volts (300kV) to three million volts (3MV).  The power supply provides a negative voltage to the electron beam accelerator; however they can be configured to a positive voltage if it is required.
